Place Setting Pieces: Forks
The Dinner fork can also be obtained in an extra large size, often referred to as the Continental size, in the following patterns: Acorn; Pyramid; Cactus.
The luncheon, salad and fish forks are usually of a similar size and many clients will interchange them which is perfectly acceptable. Don't be restrained by what they are called! For example the fish fork makes an excellent dessert fork. A set of extra smaller forks is always useful.
The salad fork usually has the squared shoulders in most patterns.
The fish fork usually has three tines [or prongs] in most patterns — but not all.
The child's fork is technically a fruit fork to be used with a fruit knife, but this practice is a little out dated these days so it will probably be used for something else!
The pastry fork is always identifiable by the small "nick" on the left tine. This fork makes an excellent hors d'ouevre or seafood fork.
