Who is Georg Jensen? While many people may not know the name Georg Jensen, it is likely that they have viewed some of his excellent craftsmanship. Born in 1866, George Jensen lived just outside of Copenhagen. Throughout his early years of training, Georg Jensen practiced as a silversmith and a goldsmith. After a brief attempt to work as a sculptor using clay and ceramics, he began working with silver once again in 1901. Shortly thereafter, he ventured out on his own and began the Georg Jensen collection, which blends the fine arts with his disciplined training in metals. Once his Copenhagen store began to see success, retail outlets soon opened in London, Paris, Berlin, Stockholm, and New York. Although George Jensen passed away in 1935, his firm still maintains the philosophy to design with a freedom that allows for expression and current trends. |
