Georg Jensen In New York

Only a few short years after starting a silversmith business in Copenhagen, Denmark, Georg Jensen was in New York, Paris, Stockholm, London and Berlin.

The high quality of his workmanship, coupled with the beauty of his Art Nouveau designs, made him a sought after name in silver flatware, holloware and jewelry in the 1920s.

Today, collectors are still actively pursuing missing pieces from their vintage flatware sets, adding to their sets of holloware and looking for pieces of jewelry to add to their collections.

The pieces sold in Georg Jensen’s New York store are evidence that the artists still adhere to the style and quality standards that made the earliest examples so valuable. Many collectors seek the vintage pieces specifically for the quality and appearance of the handcrafted workmanship, since the holloware was traditionally hammered by hand and given what Georg Jensen liked to call a “moonlight glow” from the technique.
